Eclispsed Sunrise

Read from the paper a few days ago that there will be an eclipse at sunrise today. I've been wanting to see an eclipse, and a sun rise, for a long time, and this is a rare chance to see it (them) without going to other cities.

So I got up early this morning 30 minutes before sunrise, drove to a little peninsula with my mum, sat down, and waited. People arrived seconds and minutes after I sat down, about 8 of them, all coming for the same purpose. Looking at the equipments they brought, I felt a bit embarrassed. I was too naive and thought I can cope with my sunglasses... not that I don't know about some of those equipments.

Unfortunately, not only were there islands blocking the horizon, there were clouds on top of them, and since the eclipse will only last for less than an hour after sunrise, we were worried that we might not be able to see it. So we all waited, seeing the edge of the far clouds getting brighter and brighter, with rays of light shooting up.

Finally, the Sun pops out, and proved how naive I was. Holding my camera, I tried all kinds of settings to capture the eclipsed Sun, without success. Actually I could hardly see the eclipse, the Sun was much smaller and brighter than I imagined. I took more than 200 shots, none of them showed the eclipse...

I drove home disappointed, upon arrival, I realised that the eclipse was not over yet. So I rushed in and came out with a CD. Looking through the CD, I finally had a clear view of eclipsed Sun, with a tiny corner blocked by the Moon. Satisfied, I went in and caught up with my dream.
